The Cut

An investigative documentary uncovering the Greenbelt scandal, where political promises were broken, revealing a government that served powerful developers at the expense of public trust and environmental protection in Ontario.

In 2018, Doug Ford, a populist candidate, promised the people of Ontario that he would protect the Greenbelt, a vast, ecologically significant area stretching from the Greater Toronto Area to the Niagara Escarpment. This promise was unequivocal: “We won’t touch the Greenbelt.” This pledge resonated with millions, securing their trust and votes.

But in 2022, Ford’s government announced a shocking reversal: 15 parcels of the Greenbelt would be opened for development. This decision, justified by a need for housing to accommodate a growing population, masked a deeper, more sinister agenda. Investigations revealed that these lands were not randomly selected. Instead, they were owned by developers with deep ties to the Progressive Conservative party—developers poised to make billions.

“The Cut” dives deep into this scandal, unraveling a web of political deceit, backroom deals, and broken promises. Using interviews with journalists, environmentalists, affected families, and political insiders, the documentary exposes how unelected political staffers manipulated land use policies in secret, prioritizing the interests of wealthy developers over those of ordinary Ontarians.
